Efficacy:
Saw palmetto is a native plant with fan-shaped serrated leaves from North America.
The berries are effective for the treatment of various urinary problems in men, as well as for women with breast disorders. Western physicians took up saw palmetto as a treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). French researchers discovered that by concentrating the oils of the Saw Palmetto berry, the herb's effectiveness could maxmised.
It is suggested that Saw Palmetto can markedly improve BPH's symptoms. It requires approximately 4 to 6 weeks of treatment for the benefits to be seen and research indicates that about two-thirds of men respond reasonably well. Saw Palmetto does not interfere with PSA level (a prostate cancer marker) while other medication Proscar lowers PSA measurement.
